Lithium batteries fall under category 9 miscellaneous dangerous goods (miscellaneous hazardous substances and articles, including substances hazardous to the environment), with UN numbers relating to UN3090. UN3091. UN3480 and UN3481. etc. Lithium batteries can be packaged in three ways during transportation: separately, packaged with equipment, and installed in equipment.

Do lithium batteries need to be packaged in dangerous goods?

According to the United Nations "Model Regulations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods recommendations", the capacity of lithium batteries should be used to determine whether dangerous goods packaging is necessary.

Lithium batteries to be packaged in dangerous goods are:

Lithium metal batteries or lithium alloy batteries with a lithium content of more than 1 gram, and for lithium metal or lithium alloy battery packs with a total lithium content of more than 2 grams;

For lithium-ion batteries, the watt-hour rating exceeds 20W·h, and for lithium-ion battery packs, the watt-hour rating exceeds 100W·h.

There are other exemptions to dangerous packages.
