MSK route adjustment! Involving India and the Middle East!

Maersk recently announced a series of changes to its seaborne network covering trade in India and the Middle East.


The company has opened a new round-trip route in Colombo to help with the trans-shipment of Mediterranean cargo to and from the subcontinent. The service will rotate from 5 February to Salalah, Colombo, Enor, Colombo and Salalah.


"In Colombo, we will be connected to Europe via AE7 services and to the Far East via AE55 services," Maersk said in a customer consultation. The company added: "Both services include the Western Mediterranean hub, providing connectivity to Northern Europe.

Maersk also announced four new services to strengthen its internal West Asia network to connect Red Sea and Mediterranean cargoes from the Gulf region.


Expected to start on February 5. the Gulf service will call at Salalah (Oman), Jebel Ali (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Jubail (Saudi Arabia), Jebel Ali, ABU Dhabi (UAE), Duqm (Oman) and Salalah.


Starting from February 9. the Arabian Sea service will call at Salalah, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim(Pakistan), Pipavav(India), Nhava Sheva(India) and Salalah.

Starting February 21. the Red Sea-Western Mediterranean route will rotate between Port Said (Egypt), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), King Abdullah (Saudi Arabia), Port Said (Egypt), Barcelona (Spain), Tangier (Morocco), Algeciras (Spain), Vado (Italy) and Port Said.


Since February 18. the Red Mediterranean service features port rotations to Jeddah, Port Said, Tangier Port and Port Said.


Maersk expects longer transit times on its AE5. AE10 and AE6 routes, while the ports of call on these routes will not change. Other changes include AE7 service skipping Jeddah, omitting Salalah and King Abdullah (eastbound), while adding Colombo on AE55.
