Maersk will no longer transport solid waste to China from September 1!

To comply with the Chinese government's requirement of zero solid waste import in 2021, Maersk issued a notice yesterday:

Maersk will stop transporting solid waste to China from September 1, 2020!

Previously, Liu Youbin of the Ministry of ecology and environment said: since 2021, the import of solid waste will be completely prohibited, and the Ministry of ecology and environment will no longer accept and approve applications for solid waste import.

As early as July 2017, the State Council has proposed a comprehensive ban on foreign garbage entry policy, and the government work report in 2018 made the prohibition of "foreign garbage" as the annual key work for the first time. Its purpose is to effectively prevent the risk of garbage import on China's natural environment and public health, and prevent China from becoming a garbage dumping country.

Liu Youbin also said that this year marks the end of banning the entry of foreign waste and promoting the reform of the solid waste import management system.

The newly revised "law of the people's Republic of China on the prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste" will come into effect on September 1, this year, which specifies the legal requirements for the identification of import goods suspected of solid waste, the return and disposal of illegal solid waste, and greatly increases the intensity of illegal punishment.
